Project Overview

The City of Essex Junction has adopted a
Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Master Plan!
Transit-Oriented Development is aimed at creating walkable communities centered around transportation hubs, which allow people to walk, bike, and ride transit to destinations for work and leisure. This study is focused on the City Center, Pearl Street Corridor, and Park Street area, and contains stops for Green Mountain Transit Bus Lines 2 and 10, as well as the Amtrak Station.

This project builds upon previous planning efforts that have envisioned how Essex Junction can grow thoughtfully, incorporating more diverse housing options and encouraging multi-modal transportation. Through a robust community engagement process, the team devised strategies for future development in the area, looking at opportunities for new land uses, the expansion of public space, and the improvement of facilities for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders.

Now, the City is working on implementing this plan through updates to development regulations. As this work progresses, there will be opportunities to share your feedback. Enter your email using the form below to stay updated about update code drafts and other opportunities for feedback.

Community Design Charette
What we Learned
In October 2024, the City hosted a "design charrette," which is a fancy way of saying that the community got together to come up with ideas for the project. Throughout 4 days, the community attended site tours, presentations, and workshops aimed at gleaning feedback about the challenge and opportunities in the project area.
